Homecoming in Albuquerque Means Corsages and Boutonnieres

homecomingp1homecomingp4In Albuquerque, there are number of local schools getting ready to celebrate homecoming this October, including Manzano High School, West Mesa High School, Albuquerque Academy, Highland High School and Sandia High School.

To help get the students (and parents) ready, we have put together the  best selection of homecoming flowers, including stunning corsages and gorgeous boutonnieres made with the freshest flowers like roses, orchids, carnations and more.

Factors to Consider for Selecting Your Homecoming Flowers

Since Homecoming is one of those special high school memories, you want to make sure that everything about the night is perfect, including your corsage and boutonniere.

Whether you buy it together or one of you decides to get both, there are some factors you will want to consider:

  • Dress type: Since corsages can be pin-on, wrist, or nosegay (small bouquet), your dress type will help decide what kind. For example, a pin-on corsage is challenging or impossible if your dress is strapless.
  • Personal style: You may like traditional arrangements and flower types, or you may have a flair for the decidedly different. Maybe you like a little bling or you like a rustic look of berries, willow, and leaves. Just make sure it coordinates with your outfit and your partner agrees.homecomingp3
  • Flower choice: Think about the type of flowers you like. Since you want the corsage and boutonniere to reflect your personal style, it should have a flower that means something to you.
  • Color selection: Color can be your favorite color as long as it coordinates with the outfits. While you don’t want a color that clashes, you also don’t want to have it match the dress exactly as it will lose any dramatic effect.
  • Price: Of course, price is important as you want something that fits your budget but that also offers a sophisticated and elegant look for that special night at the dance.

Fall Harvest flowers by the armful! Bushels of flowers always bring bright tiding and joy to the heart.

National Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15th through October 15th.  This blog post provides information about this special celebration and offers some suggestions on ways to celebrate it.

What is National Hispanic Heritage Month?

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a way to recognize those of Hispanic and Latin American descent who have contributed to the growth and development of these cultures within the United States and provided a fine example of leadership, hard work, service, community and family. This is also a time to recognize many of the traditions and customs that have been adopted within the United States and add to the rich fiber of the community, including the Albuquerque, New Mexico area.

Sunflowers, Safflower, Millett, Mums, and China Berry are in abundance in this beautiful Autumn floral.

The month-long celebration began in 1968 and was started on September 15th because this is the anniversary of the independence of five countries while the month long celebration also includes the independence of other Latin American countries, including all in total, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Chile and Belize.

The theme this year is “Hispanics: Serving and Leading Our Nation with Pride and Honor.”

Our blog post this week is dedicated to Grandparents Day, including its history, purpose, and gift ideas. Whether near or far, grandparents can enjoy a special day thanks to you, the family, and us at Peoples Flower Shops.

How Grandparents Day Got Started and Why

National Grandparent’s Day was the idea of Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade. She decided in 1970 in her home state of West Virginia that grandparents needed a special day just like mothers and fathers already had. She campaigned and got the media to help spread the news signature2that it should become a national day, which came about in 1978. Now, it’s celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor Day.

McQuade believed that grandparents should be honored and celebrated for what they bring to families and the community, including guidance, experience, and knowledge. It’s a great day to stop and show your appreciation for everything they do and offer every day.

Ideas for Celebrating Grandparents Day

  • Come over and take care of some home repairs or projects.
